Alto Hama-Bailundo-Mungo-Calucinga

2013-06-01

[Stretch: Alto Hama – Bailundo]
Huambo, Angola

The 170 kms of road being constructed in Angola by the Elevo Group, through MonteAdriano, encompass stretches of the EN250 (Alto Hama – Bailundo) and of the EN350 (Bailundo – Mungo – Calucinga) roads, guaranteeing the links between the municipalities of Bailundo and Mungo to Huambo. Likewise, the new road will permit the link between the provinces of Humabo, Bié and Malanje.
The stretch between Alto Hama and Bailundo was inaugurated in August 2012. It substituted the old and degraded road with a superficial surface covering that guaranteed the link between the two localities. Between Bailundo, Mungo and Calucinga, the road link was a mere trail with very deficient mobility conditions. The new stretch that links Bailundo and Mungo also became operational in August 2012.
The project included not only the widening of the road and the execution of the paving structure but also the substitution and addition of transversal drainage structures, the construction of the longitudinal drainage structures, the road signing and complementary roadside equipment as well as potential auxiliary works.
This project also foresees the construction of bridges over the rivers crossed by this road. In some cases, these bridges embody crucial links for the local communities, as is the case with the bridge over the Luvulo River, destroyed during the armed conflict, and which reconstruction has now assured the circulation between the localities of Mungo and Calucinga.
