2013-07-31

Within the scope of the construction contract undertaken by the joint venture (ACE) formed between MonteAdriano and Casais, designated «Rehabilitation and Upgrading of the No. 1 Road between Namilano and Rio Lurio in Nampula Province – Lot 2 – Mecutuchi Bridge» in Mozambique, the Group has undertaken a number of social responsibility actions in favour of the local population, in this manner minimising the damage caused to the population affected by the Works.

Commemoration of the 1st May, with MAECAS, ACE participating in the Namapa town parade with some of the contract equipment, together with other entities and local companies: Hospital de Namapa (Hospital), Plexus and the Police. During the parade, a small demonstration was made on the use of the equipment in road construction. The day ended with a friendly (11player) football match between a team formed by project workers and the local team, Real Madrid de Namapa, with the final result being a tie at1-1.

Another action promoted by MAECAS, ACE together with the Hospital de Namapa (Hospital) that is worthy of mention is the anti HIV campaign aimed at national and expatriate project workers. The importance of this campaign is significant given that the Erati district, in which Namapa is located, has the highest prevalence of HIV in the province of Nampula.

Realisation of a traditional ceremony with the Communities of Namapa, Rio Lurio and Nampeue to celebrate the start of the road construction. Likewise in the Community of Ocua, in this case with the objective of blessing the Works, this last ceremony having taken place at the MAECAS, ACE Quarry.

Meeting to determine/settle indemnities due to the proprietors of the land on which borrow sites were implanted and from which the excavation of the land for the construction of the road is carried out.

Road safety campaign in conjunction with the local Police, bringing to the drivers' attention the new circulatory circumstances during the period the road upgrade Works are being undertaken.

An awareness campaign was also undertaken amongst the roadside communities, covering the meaning of both the road signs and the road works' signs.

Ceremony covering the transfer of the tortoises from the area of the present day Quarry to a new habitat. Local religious leaders participated in this ceremony.

Distribution of water to the local population during the dry season given that this commodity is always in short supply in this season, in this region.

Upgrade of the local road between the villages of Namapa and Odinepa, at the request of the local community.

Periodic awareness and informative campaigns undertaken by the NGO N´weti amongst national and expatriate workers.
