Ceremony to lay the first stone of the reconstruction work of NKC – Rosso road, Tronçon Nouakchott Bombri

It took place in Nouakchott , last 11th February, the ceremony to lay the first stone of the reconstruction work of the NKC - Rosso Road , Tronçon Nouakchott Bombri. Representing the work's owner, the event was attended by the Mauritanian Prime Minister, Mr. Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport , Mr. Yahaya Hademine , in addition to various technical and governing boards of the DIT (Direction des Infrastructures de Transport ). From the European Union (EU), the meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Development and the EU Ambassador in NKC. Elevo Group was represented by Eng. Paulo Ferreira (the Group's COO) and Eng. José António Dias (Head of West Africa Coast market).

In a simple, fast and smooth Mauritanian style ceremony, the first to address the audience was the European Commissioner. Making the apology of the effort that has been made over the years in terms of funding for road works and its importance for the development of disadvantaged people. He also praised the 30-year cooperation between the EU and Mauritania, which from this day onwards was marked with a small monument built with this purpose. He also wished that this cooperation continues on the right track for the development of Mauritania and its people.

From the government side, it was the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport who did the honours. The minister focused his speech on the importance of this road and the work that now begins have, on the one hand, for the development of an entire region and on the other, for being the gateway to a call of extreme importance to neighbouring Senegal . He finished his speech thanking to the European Union the way they have been partners in the development of Mauritania, both on economical and social aspects. Wishing the continuation of this fruitful cooperation, the minister wished all the participants in this project his best wishes for a good job.

The speech was followed by a small tour around the billboards which briefly explained the technical part of the work. It is 145 km from Nouakchott to Bombri, with an execution period of 32 months. Funding is shared between the EU (80 %) and the Mauritanian Government (20 %).
